Burn of Whilk Wind Farm

Burn of Whilk Wind Farm, located South of Wick, Caithness, is owned and operated by Eneco UK. The nine turbine wind farm has a generating capacity of 22.5MW.

The wind farm became fully operational in September 2015. It has the potential to generate the equivalent energy needs of 12,500 households annually*.

The turbines used at Burn of Whilk Wind Farm have a hub height of 70m, and the blades are 43.8m long.


Community benefit fund

The Burn of Whilk Wind Farm community benefit fund will be used to support non-formal educational bursaries. It will benefit residents (individuals and groups) within the Latheron, Lybster & Clyth Community Council and the Tannach and District Community Council areas.

The fund available annually is £5,000 per MW of installed capacity for the lifetime of the project. The wind farm currently has an effective capacity of 22.5MW so every year up to £112,500 (index linked with inflation) may be made available through L&T.
